This 15th century icon depicts the attack on the Novgorodians by the Suzdalians, who shoot their arrows at the icon of the Mother of God that the Novgorodians display from their city walls. In response, the icon weeps and turns its face away, casting the Suzdalians into darkness and allowing the Novgorodians to overcome them.
