In the assortment of beresta wares above, natural forms predominate. We also get glimpses of religious imagery: the onion-domed St. Basil’s cathedral; the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, demolished under Stalin and rebuilt after the fall of the Soviet Union; and an icon depicting the Mother of God with the Christ child, one of the most beloved subjects in Russian Orthodox iconography.
